Importance of Literacy Narratives
*Starting from the nature and structure of literacy narratives, they are generally extended essays that trace and reflect about the definition of the author concerning literacy and the way the definition develops into a strong tool in his personal learning as well as the society. To be more specific about the definition, literacy extends to go past the connotation concerning the capability of reading or writing (Varga‐Dobai 77). This is because; it goes deeper into explaining the way people read and learn about their environment and modes of life. The extended means of defining literature incorporates home literacy, faith literacy, workplace literacy, sports, music, meals as well as the comprehensive social literacy. Literacy narratives, therefore, enables us to think about our values, traditions, conventions, norms as well as the terminology that provide a precise definition of our literacy.
*In explaining the significance of literacy narratives towards our understanding of the environment, Varga‐Dobai (79) stated that literacy narratives are our individual narrations concerning the advancement of our thought in the way we judge the world. He added by saying that literacy narratives provide a deep and reflective discovery concerning the advancement of our lives, which come because of our precise understanding of the background of the text. The oral, visual, cultural, as well as the written text, establish appropriate images in our brains that lead the society towards an understanding of the environment and the way our culture and modes of life have transformed (Lejano et al. 63). The texts comprise of our individual backdrops that shade light on how the society exists, thinks, and eventually the attitudes towards an understanding of different disciplines (Alexander 44). Most important to note is excellent processing and interpretation of the previous literacy encounters, builds our capability of entering new fields of knowledge in an effective manner. An appreciation of the various narratives that describe our lives as well as the way ideas have developed in the respective narratives enables us to enter new fields of knowledge with the right feelings and attitudes. Therefore, literacy narratives as mentioned by Lejano et al. (65) are fluids and vibrant part of what the society is, how the society interprets the world and the surroundings, hence; makes them very important for us.
*Apart from passing useful knowledge that directs the society towards a brighter future by linking the past and the present, literacy narratives are a source of personal entertainment. This is because; literacy narratives draw an image and provide a description of our environment in a manner that helps us to imagine the invisible world and how we can make the invisible world visible. For example, in describing the belief of the society regarding heaven and earth, the literature work enables the reader to imagine that he is in heaven, which makes the description unique and entertaining. Bosangit and Demangeot (210) asserts that at times, our effort to make ourselves familiar with the past and present installs a hobby that finally develops into an important source of entertainment. Literal narratives play the dual role of educating and entertaining hence; most preferred especially for children. This drives to the fact that literacy narratives can be important in strengthening relationships or bonds between children and parents thus strengthening the society. They are a facility for communicating the important values to children and the adverse effects of certain undesirable behaviors or practices.
